Homemade Floral Bath Tea

Homemade Bath Tea

Floral baths and bath teas have been used for centuries to cleanse the body and soul. Everyone loves a relaxing soak in the tub, and the addition of floral bath tea is a great way to add beneficial aromatic and soothing properties. You can use any combination of dried flowers or herbs you’d like, I opted to use rose, calendula, lavender and chamomile for their many beneficial soothing and healing properties…

Rose: Offering a soothing property to the nerves and emotional /psychological state of mind, rose is regarded as a mild sedative and anti-depressant. It is increasingly used in treatments for conditions of stress, nervous tension, peptic ulcers, heart disease, among others. There is indication that rose essence may also positively influence digestion, bile secretion, womb disorders and circulation.

Calendula: Used for centuries as a medicinal, culinary, and magical herb, the calendula flower is considered a vulnerary agent, or a substance that promotes healing. Calendula has a long history of use as a wound-healing and skin-soothing botanical. It has impressive healing powers, and can clear up many different types of skin problems.

Lavender: One of the most versatile herbs available, lavender is commonly used for anxiety, depression, mental exhaustion, insomnia, scrapes and wounds, digestive problems, headaches, skin problems and women’s health problems. In addition, lavender can be used to treat exhaustion, heat exposure, fevers, aches and pains, over-exertion, jet lag, rashes, sprains, sunburn, sunstroke, bruises, burns, and more!

Chamomile: Although best known as a muscle relaxant and antispasmodic, chamomile is also believed to have antiseptic and anti-inflammatory capabilities. The plant’s healing properties come from its daisy-like flowers, which contain volatile oils (including bisabolol, bisabolol oxides A and B, and matricin) as well as flavonoids (particularly a compound called apinegin) and other therapeutic substances.

Step One

Select the dried herbs and flowers you wish to use in your bath tea and combine in a large bowl. I used one ounce of each rose, calendula, lavender, and chamomile to make 4 ounces of tea, however you can make as much or as little as you’d like!

Step Two:

Fill muslin tea bags with your bath tea, and enjoy! If you don’t have muslin tea bags available, you can also cut cheesecloth into small squares, fill with flowers/herbs, gather at top, and tie with string.
